The first ride.
When I took her for a first ride, I was excited. When the engine is running above 2600 rpm., and you slightly push down the pedal, you can really feel the car push more and more, with every millimeter of pedal movement. When you're acellerating, it takes just a few seconds to reach 100 km/h, and it keeps pushing you, until you've reached the speed of 200km/h, than it accelerates a bit less, until the rev. counter is at about 6500 rpm.,when the car reaches a speed of 210km/h. Time to let go of the acceleratingpedal, before valvesprings will start floating...
Maybe sometime I'll mount the 75TB gearbox. With the same tyresize, I should theoretically be able to reach a speed of 247km/h at 6500 rpm... Probably it won't accelerate that quick anymore, but I think I'll still be faster than a lot of other sporty cars.
There are also some things I regret about, by this turbo conversion. - It's running too smooth, compared to the original carburated engine. I know it ain't such a big deal, and it ain't a real disadvantage either, but the thing I liked with the old engine was that while I was waiting for the traffic sign, the car was shakin', because of the irregulary idle run. - The noise of the carburators, when you accelerate, is another thing I'm missing. Now I can only hear the turbo whistle at high revs. |

Things I've done...
-Ofcourse, before fitting in the 75TB engine, I cleaned the whole engine, and the enginecompartiment.
- I replaced the drivetrain with the one from the 75 turbo, but because I liked it to have the possibility to put the original wheels back on, I've mounted the original 4 bolt drivetrain again.
-I've lowered the car, it looks very nice, but the disadvantage of lowering it, is that the front lower arms will get into a less ideal angle. For example: When the car makes a fast corner, the wheel camber can get too positive, because of the lower arm getting shorter, instead of (ideally) getting longer. But, lowering the car, also will make the point of weight a lot lower, and as I already said, it sure looks better.
-I've mounted the yellow Koni's that came with the 75TB.
-I've replaced the front roll bar, with the one from the 75TB, and mounted it with polyurethane bushings.
-I've re-wired the electric fan to make it able to run whenever the cooling liquid is too hot, even if the contact is turned off.
- I've mounted 15" Ronal A1 alloys, equipped with Michelin Pilot tires. At the frontwheels I fitted 195/55 ,and at the rear, I fitted 205/50.
It sure looks better then the original steel wheels, and the car really sticks to the road.
- I've removed the front bumper, maybe just for I while, I'm not sure if I keep it this way. Most annoying thing is the large yellow license-plate. (I'm gonna remove the rear bumper also)
- I've replaced the dashboard with a leather upholstered one. It looks very nice, not so "plastic" anymore.
- I've mounted a Racimex turbopressure gauge, and was surprised that my turbocharger actually delivered 1.2 bar instead of an original 0.75 bar.
YES!! The car was already chiptuned!!!
- I've mounted a bleed-valve to make the waste-gate actuator act a bit slower, so the turbopressure is 1.4 bar by now.
- I've improved the Watt linkage using stiffer steel bars with balljoints at both ends.
- I've mounted a late GTV6 black Recaro interior.
- I've done some more tuning, and it's theoretically calculated power must be app.
250BHP by now.
It's acting a bit agressive when the turbo comes really in, sometimes when I want to take over another car (while drivin' app. 90 km/h), I've got to be very alert to prevent the car from breakin' out sideways.
***I've recently raced against a Porsche 911 (factory specs: acceleration 0-100km/h 6.1 sec., topspeed 245 km/h ,231 hp and a torque of 284 Nm, weight 1210 kg), that poor Porsche driver looked a bit surprised and disappointed... This Alfetta really kick's ass!***

Things to do..
- I have a spare hood, maybe I'll repaint that in satin black. Maybe with a big Alfa serpent on it. So I can mount that for some period, but will still have an original color in my garage.
- I must do some bodywork. The rusty spots beneath the sidewindows are getting worse. Must be the Dutch weather..
- I want to replace the rubber brakelines with stainless steel braided lines.
- I want to stiffen the DeDion axle, and replace the rear roll bar with the one from the 75TB, mounted with polyurethane bushings or rod-ends. Ofcourse the whole stuff will be cleaned and coated again.
- Maybe I'll replace the injection system by carburators, I think the car will act a lot quicker, when you push down the accelerator pedal. The only bad thing about carburators will the increasement of fuel consumption be. At this moment the car already has an average fuel consumption of 1 liter for every 7,5 kilometers.
- Because I think it's not that fast anymore (some people who drive with me say that this is just a matter of getting used to it), I want to do some engine modifications, and I'm serious considering of mounting a twinspark-head on the engine... Anyone with experience???
... Sometimes I'm thinking of selling the car, to buy another project. Hmmm... what about the Lancia Thema 8.32 with that Ferrari engine? That engine should also fit into an Alfetta GT...
... Other plans I have, is buying a Sprint and use a 33 Permanent 4, as a donor car for it...
Or.. to buy a Lancia Beta Montecarlo, one of my most favorite cars.
At this moment I'm busy with another project car, it's an Alfetta GTV2000 and I'm very busy welding it. Also there's a choice out of 3 potential engines, the original carburated 2.0 litre, a 2.0 litre TwinSpark engine, and I have another 1.8 litre turbocharged engine.
But... I can't really make a choice, so I think I'm gonna use the TwinSpark base engine, decrease the combustion ratio, and mount the turbo from the 1.8 litre engine on it...
